Just A Matter Of Overclocking?

TechSpot have located the rare Ryzen 7 3800X and tested it against the Ryzen 7 3700X to find out what really distinguishes these two chips apart from the model number.  On paper the two chips differ in clock speed and TDP, the 3700X tops out at 4.4GHz with a 65W TDP while the 3800X hits 4.5GHz at 105w; apart from that the cache and other specifications match.  TechSpot questioned why there is a 40W increase in power to increase the frequency by 100MHz as well as such a large price difference and set out to overclock and benchmark the two siblings.

Check out their results if you are trying to decide which of the two of these processors you are looking to purchase.

Why has the 3800X been so hard to get, how does it differ from the 3700X and why has the TDP increased by over 60% for a 100 MHz increase in boost frequency?

Seems like you forgot the base clocks, the 3700X is 3.6GHz and 3800X is 3.9GHz, thats the reason for the TDP increase…
