It may be the third Half-Life game, but it’s not the long-awaited Half-Life 3. Valve late Monday announced Half-Life: Alyx, a new “flagship” game for its SteamVR platform. The title likely refers to the Half-Life 2 character Alyx Vance. Valve stated that it would share additional details this Thursday, November 21st, at 10:00am Pacific Time.

We’re excited to unveil Half-Life: Alyx, our flagship VR game, this Thursday at 10am Pacific Time. Can’t wait to share it with all of you!

The announcement was preceded by earlier rumors that the company would release a Half-Life-related VR title, with a launch scheduled for March 2020. A purportedly leaked interview transcript claims that the game will be exclusive to VR, at least at first, and that players will be able to “see their whole body — respond to the situation. You know, panicking, dropping clips on the ground as they fumble their weapons ’cause a zombie’s in front of them…”

While likely a coincidence, the original Half-Life is about to celebrate its 21st birthday. The game first launched on November 19, 1998.
