The Epic Games Holiday Sale 2019 has just begun with two promotions:

  • A free game every day for 12 days.
  • The ability to chain $10 coupons (for “eligible purchases” – basically $15-and-up).

While I write this, there are still a handful of hours left to acquire Into the Breach, which is the first free game. It is a turn-based strategy by the creator of FTL. It was originally released in 2018 and currently has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam (where it is on sale for 50%-off).

They have not yet announced tomorrow’s game.

As for the $10 coupons – it’s an interesting twist to drive multiple purchases. It also skirts around the issue at the root of the first Epic Mega Sale fiasco. Publishers pulled their games from the Epic Games store out of fear that the $10-off would water down their perceived value. It seems like the reaction is more positive this time around, now that it’s a chosen price with an adjacent discount. They will also start you off with a $10 coupon if you make a purchase or claim a free game, so you don’t need to make a big purchase to start the ball rolling. Coupons expire on May 1st.

A bunch of new titles are involved in the sale, such as 33% off Control and 20% off Red Dead Redemption 2. Mechwarrior 5 is full price, but eligible for the coupon deal.

Check out the Epic Games store if there’s a game that interests you.
