CES 2020: Lenovo and NEC’s Ultra-Light LAVIE Pro Mobile Laptop
It has been five years (!) since Lenovo partnered with NEC to introduce the LAVIE notebook at CES 2015, an impossibly lightweight design starting at just 1.72 pounds.
Friday’s pre-CES announcement added three new members to the LAVIE family for the US market, beginning with the LAVIE Pro Mobile laptop, a 13.3-inch model with an anti-glare FHD display which is powered by an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8565U processor.

“The super lightweight 1.85lbs/837g laptop with a 0.62”/15.5mm ultra-slim body and lift-up hinge keyboard offers portability with a long battery runtime of up to 15 hours, in mobile benchmark tests – allowing users to work anywhere at any time. Usually design is compromised to pursue durability and weight, but this model ticks all the boxes.”
Lenovo says that the LAVIE Pro Mobile laptop’s top cover is made with Toray racing-grade carbon fiber, while the bottom case uses a “light-weight magnesium lithium array” which initially was “exclusively used in the aerospace industry and later pioneered by NEC PC for commercial use in 2012”.
The LAVIE Pro Mobile will start at 1,599.99 USD, with availability set for March in the US.
