AMD Ryzen H-Series CPU And An RX 5600M In A Dell Laptop

You can’t buy it quite yet but Frank Azor, AMD’s Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions, is ready to tell you all about the upcoming Dell gaming laptop first revealed at CES.  It was introduced as part of the AMD Advantage program, which indicates a system using an AMD GPU and CPU in tandem to make the best of both devices.  The tool which enabled this is called SmartShift which lets the GPU and CPU communicate directly to dynamically shift power from the processor to the GPU and vice versa based on the current demand on the system.  Their demonstration featured The Witcher 3, Battlefield 5 and The Division 2, and showed a average of a 14% increase in performance when SmartShift was enabled compared to when it was disabled.

In this laptop you will find an RX 5600M and a Ryzen H-Series processor from a 6 core 4.0GHz Ryzen 5 4600H up to an 8 core Ryzen 9 4900H that can hit 4.4 GHz.  At launch you will be able to choose between a 1080p 60Hz display or 144Hz AMD FreeSync display, with an additional 120Hz Freesync model releasing in August.

We can hope that this indicates a new era in which you can chose AMD processors and GPUs in a variety of systems from different OEMs, for both gaming and productivity.  Keep an eye out for more information and reviews as we get into June.

On stage at CES 2020, I introduced the first “AMD Advantage” system to the world: the Dell G5 15 SE. Today, this collaboration between Dell and AMD comes to life. We are proud to share the most comprehensive all-AMD gaming solution ever, combining those core components of AMD Ryzen processors, AMD Radeon graphics, and AMD technologies and software.
