Is The Solid Gear Neutron 550W Totally Metal?
There Are Probably Worse Ways To Spend $40
Those of you who watch the podcast with a certain host’s Micro Center fetish – and that is why it is interesting to take a look at a PSU from Solid Gear as Micro Center is one of the few places that you can find their products. In this case we find an inexpensive 550W Neutron PSU up for review at The FPS Review and even if you aren’t interested in picking up a new PSU, this one is worth reading.
As you can see from the picture, not only is this fully non-modular but it also offers you a clear view of the ends of the cabling, not hiding their natural beauty under sleeves which stretch the entire length. In what could be assumed as an environmentally friendly decision, the package only contains the power supply, no wasted paper for manuals nor metal for screws. They even chose not to use up any metals in their efficiency rating. It has a fan which spins too!
The FPS Review suggests you do not exceed 50% load on this PSU, for reasons which will become very apparent when reading the full review. You have been warned.
Today, however, Solid Gear’s product portfolio includes chassis/cases, fans, various accessories, and power supplies that can be found online and in Micro Center still. Among this expanding portfolio, we are interested in their power supplies. Today, we are looking at the 550W entry in their Neutron series which is produced in conjunction with, we believe, Delta.
