A Most Delicious Rumour From Microsoft Surfaces For AMD
Microsoft May Extend Ryzen Options To The 13.5″ Line
Last year was the first time Microsoft offered an AMD option for their Surface laptops, however they only included it in the 15″ models. You were offered the choice of a variety of Intel parts, or you could opt for the Ryzen 7 3780U Microsoft Surface Edition Processor with RX Vega 11 or the Ryzen 5 3580U Microsoft Surface Edition Processor with RX Vega 9, both sporting a 15W TDP.
If the rumour Ars Technica picked up on, which is “based solely on a spec sheet WinFuture says it received from an unnamed dealer” is true, then the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 will include the option for a lightly modified Ryzen 5 4680U or Ryzen 7 4980U Surface Edition in their 13.5″ models. The laptops will offer up to 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, which is half of the totals available on their Intel powered lines. The new Intel Tiger Lake models can have up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.
If you are shopping for the Intel models, expect to see Intel’s i5-1145G7 and i7-1185G7 Tiger Lake with Iris Plus 950 graphics in the new Surface Laptop 4.
According to a report by German news site WinFuture, Microsoft's new Surface 4 Laptop—set to debut this April—will offer AMD and Intel processor options side by side.
