MSI Updates Their NVMe Offering Spatium M480 Play 2

MSI’s Second PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD
MSI’s first drive was quite successful, the Spatium M480 provided great performance for a first release. The MSI Spatium M480 Play will sell in 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB, with the 2TB model up for review at TechPowerUp. The controller is the usual Phison PS5018-E18 and 176-Layer 3D TLC flash from Micron found on current PCIe 4.0 drives.
Tests show it to be about 2% faster than the original M480, making it one of the better drives out there as far as performance goes. The Corsair MP600 LPX, WD Black SN850 and Kingston KC3000 are the main competitors, unless you are looking for a PlayStation 5 drive. The four drives are all fairly expensive, all are over $300 for the 2TB model making the price the main deciding factor between them. Keep your eye out for sales and pick up the least expensive of the four.
With the M480 Play, MSI upgrades its SSD offerings to use the latest and greatest 176-layer 3D TLC flash from Micron. What MSI also improved is the heatsink, which is now fully compatible with the Sony PlayStation 5 and looks fantastic, thanks to a great mix of colors and a matte surface structure.
