A Trio Of Turtle Beach Headphones

Two Wired, One Wireless

TweakTown likes turtles.  They have just reviewed three Turtle Beach gaming headsets, ranging in price from $160 to not quite available at the moment.  Two are wireless while the third is wireless, and unfortunately more or less unavailable.   They have separate reviews for each, which you should check out but here is a quick overview.

The Turtle Beach Elite Atlas is a stereo headset powered by 50mm neodymium Nanoclear speakers with a frequency response ranging from 12 – 20000Hz.  It connects via 3.5mm audio cable and doesn’t need a pre-amp, so it will work on almost any console as well as your PC and phone.  The audio quality was quite good, though the microphone was just average and while it doesn’t have much in the way of size adjustments if it fits you should appreciate the light weight of this headset.

The Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero is physically similar to the previous headset, apart from offering wireless connectivity in addition to wired, and the battery does add some weight to the headset.  This one comes with a software suite as you can enable Waves Nx 3D Audio as well as an adjustable 10-band EQ.  The microphone, as you might expect, is as run of the mill as the Elite Atlas.

The final headset of the trio is the Turtle Beach Recon 70, priced at about half the cost of the previous two headsets.  Part of that cost reduction is the 40mm neodymium drivers and a frequency response range of 20 – 20000Hz.  Though the headset is quite light, Tweaktown found the headband to be rather tight and uncomfortable to wear for hours on end.  However when you do wear them you can expect decent audio performance and a microphone at least as good as on the other two.
