53 Games, Three CPUs And One RTX 4090
AMD Versus AMD And AMD Versus Intel
It might seem hard to believe, but TechPowerUp is probably tired of playing with their RTX 4090. They just conducted a minimum of 159 runs of 53 games using that GPU, the actual number of tests is actually probably far larger. However, if you want to know the performance deltas between a system based on a Ryzen 7 5800X, a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and an Intel i9-13900K when you install an RTX 4090 then their work is well worth it!
For those who lean towards AMD, the 3DV Cache is the secret weapon you need. At 1080p the Ryzen 7 5800X3D could beat it’s brother by up to 50%, though the average is around 18% This changes depending on the game, so you really should take a look through the full results. When upping the resolution to 1440p the average drops to 15.4% faster while at 4K you will still see a 6.8% boost over the Ryzen 7 5800X. At no point did that 5800X take a win, so keep that in mind.
When the mighty Ryzen 7 5800X3D vies against Intel’s i9-13900K things change significantly. While Intel’s processor wins most of the tests at 1080p the 5800X3D does so much better at Devil May Cry 5 it reduced Intel to a 6.8% lead. Of course an RTX 4080 isn’t intended for that resolution, though it is handy for testing CPUs. At 1440p that lead reduces to 4.7%, and at 4K it drops to 1.3%, more showing the power of the RTX 4080 than either processor.
The results of these tests are clear, the 5800X3D is a better choice for gaming than the vanilla 5800X, however the i9-13900K is the king of the hill at the moment. It doesn’t beat the 5800X3D by the same margins but apart from a handful of games Intel’s new processor is the best.
How much performance can you gain with Ryzen 7 5800X3D over the non-3DV Cache Ryzen 7 5800X when using the mighty GeForce RTX 4090? Our review has the answer, we test 53 games at three resolutions.
