NVIDIA Officially Responds to 12VHPWR Situation with Power Connector Update
We already learned this from Gamers Nexus a couple of days ago, but it’s official now: you need to plug your 12VHPWR connector in all the way (and keep it there). Yes, NVIDIA has finally released a public update to the ever-popular RTX 4090 connector drama.

Power Connector Update – GeForce RTX 4090We are actively investigating the reports. We are aware of about 50 cases globally.
Our findings to date suggest that a common issue is that connectors are not fully plugged into the graphics card. To help ensure the connector is secure we recommend plugging the power dongle into the graphics card first to ensure it’s firmly and evenly plugged in, before plugging the graphics card into the motherboard.
We are investigating additional ways to ensure that the connector is secure before powering on the graphics card.
NVIDIA and our partners are committed to supporting our customers and ensuring an expedited RMA process, regardless of the cable or card used.
It sounds like anyone affected by this, regardless of the high likelihood of user error, will be taken care of. It’s the right way to approach an issue that has not helped NVIDIA’s image in the least. Will we finally get past the endless 4090 memes? No, that will take years. It’s the Internet.
Also, you may have noticed that NVIDIA states that this issue has affected a total of 50 cards worldwide (out of about 125,000 sold, according to GN). Not that this will change the narrative from fans of the other team…
