The Shiny MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB SUPRIM X
Are You A Fan Of Diecast Aluminium
There are many RTX 4080 card designs, and finally you can actually buy some of them from a store as opposed to second hand from a disappointed crypto-bro. You do still have to invest a significant amount of money to own one, more so for a non-Founders Edition card. That premium often does pay dividends, such as with MSI’s RTX 4080 Suprim X that The FPS Review just reviewed.
The card is advertised with a slightly raised Boost Clock of 2625MHz as compared to the Founders Edition 2505MHz, which turned out to be an understatement. When tested in Cyberpunk 2077 the card hit and maintained 2850MHz without wavering. When overclocked it exhibited the same behaviour at an impressive 3015MHz on the same benchmark.
MSI seems to have accomplished this thanks to the roughly five pound, three ounce diecast aluminium shroud and backplate which are very effective at moving heat. The shroud is assisted by the upgraded Torx fan design, which still features ZERO FROZR to keep your system quiet when it doesn’t have a lot of work to do. The MSI RTX 4080 16GB SUPRIM X will cost you, but it does come out ahead of the competition, especially once overclocked.
Released on 15 November 2022, the NVIDIA RTX 4080 Founders Edition is listed for $1199, and our MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB SUPRIM X is currently selling for $1379. It is readily available and carries a 3-year warranty. The card we are reviewing today is a full off-the-shelf retail model purchased.
