The Passively Cooled Cooler Master X Silent Edge Platinum 1100W
Yes, A Passively Cooled Kilowatt Class PSU
Cooler Master have done something very impressive with the new Silent Edge Platinum 1100W PSU. They have designed a unique PS which incorporates a heatpipe block connected to an outer heatsink plate which makes up the entirety of the underside of the casing. The design is so effective KitGuru measured the exhaust of the PSU at a mere 69C when running at it’s full 1100W, with an efficiency of 92.4% to boot! You will obviously need a case with a fair amount of fans to provide the over pressure to generate that exhaust, a purely watercooled machine would not be a good home for a Silent Edge Platinum PSU.
KitGuru’s testing proves that Cooler Master didn’t sacrifice power delivery to provide a silent PSU, ripple and load tests all came out with flying colours. The only bad news is that this PSU is going to be expensive, expect a price below $500 … but not by much. On the other hand you get a perfectly silent PSU with a 15 year warranty, which will be worth the asking price for some enthusiasts.
If, like me, you value a low noise PC then today's power supply will be of particular interest. Cooler Master have designed their own passively cooled power supply, able to deliver 1100 Watts of power.
