Microsoft Recall Is Out, The Reviews Are In
It’s Not Just Controversial, It Also Has Some Issues
Microsoft Recall has been out long enough that some places are offering reviews, and there seems to be some problems with the app. The snapshots can often be delayed, so that you need to reboot the laptop to be able to access them. That is unless Recall didn’t even record the snapshot as there are times there will be minutes long gaps in your history. There are those that would consider this a good thing, but for those users who want their activity recorded it is an issue.
As well, you should be able to prevent Microsoft Recall from recording certain apps, however not all of your installed apps may appear in the list of programs to exclude, and Recall records by default. To make things even better, you are supposed to be able to exclude certain websites from being recorded, but if you are browsing with Edge you may find that they are captured regardless of the settings you applied.
There were also some issues reported with the search feature, both using text to find a filename and trying to search the content of pictures by putting in keywords. Check out more examples and the full review at Slashdot.
CNBC adds that according to Microsoft Recall "won't work with some accessibility programs, and if you specify that Recall shouldn't save content from a given website, it might get captured anyway while using the built-in Edge browser..." But those aren't the only issues CNBC noticed:
