RTX 5080 Launch Day Reviews

The Most Popular Version Is The RTX 5080 OOS (Out Of Stock) Edition

Today is the day that Blackwell GPUs goes on sale … and they are now all gone!  You can search for them to your heart’s content but the chances of you finding one, even at an obnoxious price, are very small.  That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the performance of the third party cards vicariously through the various reviews on the web, and there are quite a few of them.

One worth taking a look at is TechPowerUp’s review of MSI’s GeForce RTX 5080 Vanguard SOC, as their new Hyper Frozr cooling solution is not only effective but also quite snazzy looking.  The shroud has three StormForce fans, carbon fibre surfaces and acrylic RGB LED lighting diffusers with a matching brushed aluminium backplate.  Inside the heat pipes have been flattened to a cuboidal shape which is attached to a large aluminium fin-stack with wavy edges that create turbulence for boost heat dissipation.

That doesn’t come cheap, MSI cranked up the price by a $230, so $1230 is the price you should pay for the RTX 5080 Vanguard SOC.   You will see improved performance over the Founders Edition, but not really enough to justify the cost unless you really like the look.

Vanguard is MSI's new addition to the company's GeForce RTX 50 product stack. It sits slightly below Suprim and offers a similar premium design with a strong cooler and factory OC. In our testing, the Vanguard's thermal solution is actually the strongest of the 10 RTX 5080 cards that we've tested so far.
