AMD Reveals Radeon RX 9070 Series Pricing, Previews Performance

AMD is in a position to grab some of NVIDIA’s market share
In a YouTube presentation this morning, AMD at last revealed more details – including the all-important MSRPs – about the Radeon RX 9070 Series, which are being released on March 6. And here is pricing:
- AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT: $599 USD
- AMD Radeon RX 9070: $549 USD
Why are they just $50 apart? You may as well ask why the RX 7900 XT launched at $899 USD when the much faster RX 7900 XTX was just $100 more, but we aren’t supposed to understand these things.
(Jaded editorial comments:) Besides, is there any chance of actually getting a 9070 XT for $599 even one day after launch? The RX 9070 will be the RX 7900 XT all over again – the only one available at launch, and most models will be listed for more than suggest price of the faster card.
Here is AMD’s spec table for the new GPUs:
In case you missed it, AMD’s presentation this morning can be streamed via this YouTube link, and AMD’s full press release is available at this link.
As to performance, AMD stressed 4K performance pretty hard during the presentation, but one area that should see a lot of improvement – regardless of resolution – is ray tracing. Yes, Team Red, AMD actually cares about ray tracing, so now you can, too. Anyway, here’s a slide of 4K/Ultra performance (you know, the resolution and detail settings that most gamers who buy cards at under $700 use?):
Sure, comparing the new RX 9070 XT to last generation’s RX 7900 XT and XTX would be a lot more interesting to us enthusiasts, but we will have to wait for reviews to see those comparisons.
