The RTX 5070 Founders Edition Revealed

The NVIDIA RTX 4070 SUPER V2.0?
The RTX 5070 Founders Edition was not intended to be a return of the RTX 4070 SUPER, after all it is launching at the same $549 MSRP that the RTX 4070 was priced at, but from the benchmarks. In Sebastian’s testing the RTX 5070 Founders Edition was able to outperform the RTX 4070 SUPER in synthetic benchmarks, but once he tested games that lead disappeared. The RTX 5070 Founders Edition and RTX 4070 SUPER provide performance numbers which you have to squint in order to see the differences, they are essentially the same.
The FPS Review had similar results in their tests, which include several games not covered here at PCPer, the RTX 5070 Founders Edition and RTX 4070 SUPER offer essentially the same performance. They are both solid mid-range cards and if you have been considering the RTX 4070 SUPER as an upgrade for your current system then do yourself a favour; wait until prices stabilize and save yourself $50 by grabbing an RTX 5070. The two cards do surpass AMD’s 7800 XT, which is important for NVIDIA to do at this price range, though that market segment could change in a day or two with AMD’s upcoming release.
It’s disappointing for enthusiasts to look at two cards from different generations, separated by a single tier, provide the exact same performance. It’s just not exciting for us. For the gamer it is good to see this performance level accompanied by a price drop, which is a rare thing today. The RTX 5070 Founders Edition isn’t a bad card, but it is a bit boring.
The GeForce RTX 5070 is NVIDIA’s $549 GeForce RTX 50 series GPU based on the Blackwell architecture. The GeForce RTX 5070 is a 12GB GDDR7 video card with features such as DLSS 4 and Multi-Frame Generation.
