The Witcher 4 Is NOT Coming Soon

2027 At The Earliest

You should be glad someone sat in on CD Projekt Red’s latest earnings call because in amongst all the financial details was an important announcement for anyone hoping for an early release of The Witcher 4.  Thanks to that selfless person we now know that “the game will not be launched within the time frame of the first target for the incentive program, which ends December 31, 2026.“.  That indicates that some time in 2027 is the absolute earliest we might see Ciri star in her own Witcher game.  CD Projekt Red doesn’t have the best record for releasing games on time so 2027 is not guaranteed.

The delayed release may be good news, even if it doesn’t seem so at first.  CD Projekt Red received a lot of negative press over their business practices during the crunch time leading to the release of Cyberpunk 2077.  The management broke their promise not to exploit their employees in this manner and if they do so again they may well see a mass exodus of coders and possibly a court case if they attempt to repeat that behaviour.  The delay should also help quash bugs, something they really want to do for Witcher 4, after the almost hilariously broken state of Cyberpunk at release.

Let’s hope our patience is rewarded.

The earnings call was mostly a slew of graphs and tables with lots of numbers. Horrifying stuff. But there were some comments from executives which eliminated the possibility of an early release for the anticipated open world RPG, as spotted by PC Gamer.
