Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition Free For Anyone Who Owns The Original Trilogy

Move Over Stalker 2, The Originals Are Shining Today
GSC Game World revealed a surprise for fans of Stalker with updates that modernize Shadow of Chornobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Prypiat. The lighting system has been revamped and new skyboxes added which will change the overall feel of the Zone. As well NPCs and gun models have been improved, though the weapons will still degrade just like in the old days. You can also expect updated textures, which will still probably be small enough an RTX 5060 can handle them to help improve the overall look of the game. Last, but not least GSC updated the UI, likely to help scale up the text when running at resolutions we didn’t even dream of in 2007.
It’s not clear if the Lost Alpha version of Shadow of Chernobyl will be compatible with this upgrade, Directors Cut or the original. It will also be a challenge if you are old enough to have played the original game, which came on a CD. GoG did let you enter your code to get a working copy in the past, but that offer ended some time ago so if you didn’t take advantage of that you will need to buy the game again to try out the upgrades.
Over on an FAQ about the update, GSC explained that these improvements include things like enhancements to GodRays and the overall lighting system, refined surface reflections, improved 3D models for NPCs and guns, and even things like updated skyboxes.

Maybe that’s snark but I’m not sure that anyone was asking for Lost Alpha compatibility. However, what people are asking for is a game that has less issues than the original and doesn’t have arbitrary changes and retcons. I did try using old saves and mods from the original release like Clear Sky Reclamation Project to no avail. It’s getting downvoted on Steam for some real reasons and some political. Personally I played Clear Sky EE from GoG and many of the quests outside the first zone are flat broken. I’m sure GSC will fix but it’s not a good look for a company that just had a major hit with Stalker 2.
