Everything You Wanted To Know About Battlefield 6’s Open Beta But Were Afraid To Ask

You Got Battlefield In My Battlefield?!?

I have, as of yet, not had a chance to try out Battlefield 6 however an unnamed acquaintance has and in between repetitive boasts of ‘shooting guys in the face with a tank’ they revealed that our fears that Battlefield 6 is going to be a COD clone are thankfully overblown.  The open beta this weekend and next (9th-11th and 14th-18th) will let more of us determine what we think, as long as you signed up for it before you read this.  If you haven’t you still can, but you will have to “sign into the EA and Twitch apps, then watch 30 minutes of Your Favourite Creators streaming the game“.  You will get bonus skins if you torment yourself beyond that minimum, and it is possible that even if you already pre-loaded the open beta your access will be superseded by someone who actually likes to watch someone else game.

If you do manage to get in, the hardware requirements are almost shockingly low. a Core i5-8400/Ryzen 5 2600 and an RTX 2060/RX 5600 XT/Arc A380 will get you a playable 1080p while the recommended specs are a mere i7-10700/Ryzen 7 3700 and an RTX 3060Ti/RX 6700 XT/Arc B580.  In all cases you will need 16GB of RAM and at least 75GB of spare storage.  The one other thing you will need is to have Secure Boot enabled.

There will be three maps to play, Siege of Cairo and Iberian Offensive are in urban settings while Liberation Peak lets you blow up Tajikistan’s mountains with all sorts of different vehicles, the three modes will be conquest, breakthrough, and closed weapons breakthrough.  The closed weapons will be the traditional Battlefield classes we all know and love, if it doesn’t say closed then you can kit yourself up without limit; perhaps fun but not in the spirit of Battlefield 6’s predecessors.  For the second weekend they are adding the Empire State map which covers some of Brooklyn and two new modes, rush and squad deathmatch.  Those sound far more like COD than Battlefield so chose your game types carefully, lest EA thinks you prefer the lesser options.

Perhaps we shall meet each other in the Battlefield this weekend or next.

If you failed to swipe a key for this week's Battlefield 6 beta, because you neither signed up via the Battlefield Labs programme before 31st July nor watched Your Favourite Creators play the game during the recent multiplayer reveal, then Don't Sweat It, Soldier, because Drill Sergeant EA Have Your Back in the shape of a last-gasp code giveaway.
