Meet /e/OS, A Fork of LineageOS,

Ars Technica had a chance to try out Murena’s Pixel Tablet, and Android tablet with absolutely no Google on it.  The Pixel Tablet comes pre-loaded with a Chromium-based web browser with specific /e/OS settings and an ad blocker on by default, email is handled by a a fork of K9-mail and your default search is set to a modified version of Qwant built specifically to run well on /e/OS.  Additional apps are installed from Murena’s App Lounge which doesn’t require an account so your app use is anonymous, and offers a privacy ratings for it’s apps based on the number of trackers attached to those apps.

There are some incompatibilities, so you can opt to use Google’s Play store with all of it’s usage tracking if you need.  There are ways to manually import some data, like your emails into the Pixel Tablet, but not everything can be ported over.  The hardware is decent, an Octa-core design with two 2.85 GHz Cortex-X1 ciores, two 2.35 GHz Cortex-A78 cores and  four 1.80 GHz Cortex-A55 with graphics handled by a Mali-G710 MP7.  You get 8GB of RAM and can choose between a 128 or 256 GB model, and the screen is a 10.95″ IPS LCD at 1600×2560.

Check it out here.

Murena's Pixel Tablet takes a stance against that norm. It's Google’s Pixel Tablet hardware running an Android fork but without any Google tracking or Google apps. While I still found myself heading back to Google services while using the tablet, Murena’s gadget reminded me of how feasible it is to limit Big Tech’s reach into my life.
