8TB of PCIe 5.0 Storage In This Samsung 9100 PRO Review
Size Matters!
TweakTown got their hands on a super sized version of Samsung’s 9100 Pro, it’s still a M.2 2280 drive but it is packed with flash. Indeed this is the first double sided M.2 SSD from Samsung, which could see some throttling if the backside gets too warm, but TT saw now evidence of this in their testing. With 8TB of storage it would be a bit of a challenge to fill the drive up enough to ensure you were using the flash on the back and you might already see evidence of the performance degradation from lack of free space.
Overall it is an impressive performer, the 8TB keeps up with the smaller models, as you would expect. It will work in a PS5, but testing shows it definitely wasn’t optimized for that purpose. The other bad news is the price, you can expect to pay at least $1000 for this Samsung 9100 Pro!
Samsung's 9100 PRO is the first 8TB PCIe Gen5 SSD we've encountered, offering double the performance of all previous 8TB retail NVMe SSDs.
