OpenAI Is Open To Poaching
Sachin Katti, who has been Intel’s CTO for several years, and became head of their AI team when Lip Bu Tan took over leadership of Intel has left to join OpenAI. The AI company has been growing impressively lately, with Softbank investing billions of dollars more in the company; even selling NVIDIA stock to increase their share.
This is yet another blow to Intel who have been having a horrible year as have their employees. The loss of their new AI head does not bode well for their hopes to become a major player in the AI business. Intel may have AI-infused CPUs for sale but as far a HPC components or a software stack they are lagging far behind the competition.
According to the Register, Lip Bu Tan will be assuming the AI leadership role for now.
News of Katti’s departure seems to have played out on X, where OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman welcomed the former Intel exec to the AI upstart.
