Inexpensive AM5 motherboards will not help very much right now
In a post published yesterday over at VideoCardz.com, a report has emerged of a stay of execution for AMD’s budget AM5 chipset, the B650. According to this report “AMD informed motherboard manufacturers that B650 and B850 chipsets will coexist”, which seems odd considering the PC affordability problem this generation is not a motherboard issue. The B650 chipset had reportedly been discontinued earlier this year.

Unfortunately, there is no true budget platform for any AM5 socket CPU, as AMD made the decision to leave DDR4 behind when AM5 was introduced back in 2022. I don’t think many people thought twice about that decision as DDR5 prices were well on their way to price parity with DDR4 at the time, but we now live in a nightmare world with RAM gets more expensive every week.
