The Long Dead Second Fallout 3 Will Rise Soon

The Fallout series of games has a long history, and of the many odd things that took place was the original Fallout 3, which was code named Van Buren.  All previous Fallout games featured turn based combat, this proposed Fallout 3 was the first that was to offer real time combat and fans opinions were both strong and varied.  The original plan was to offer a choice, play a version with turn based combat or play one in real time.  Bethesda was told by the publisher Interplay that this compromise was unacceptable and Van Buren, if ever released, would be real time only.  There would also be modifications to the SPECIAL traits, again a very divisive suggestion.  If you are unfamiliar with the saga and curious about it, check out this page.

This new total modification of Fallout New Vegas will bear some resemblance to the original Van Buren, in that you start out in Tibbets prison and have to gain your freedom.  You will be The Prisoner as opposed to The Courier and while it will take place in the Mojave desert it will predate New Vegas.  We will know more about what Van Buren will look like on March 5th as the new demo drops.

If you are looking for the original Burham Springs demo, it has been taken down as the New West team seems to have made enough changes that it no longer represents the current state of the mod.

As for the upcoming demo, it'll drop you into Tibbets prison and likely task you with negotiating your release. I'm sure the robots and AI brains in change will conduct fair parole hearings.
