AMD Pricing Reflects Desktop Dominance?

Our short wait is over, as AMD today announced pricing and availability of the new Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor. Are you sitting down? As AMD states:

The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor will be available from leading retailers starting Apr. 22 with an SEP of $899.

We didn’t think it would be cheap, as is “the first desktop processor designed with dual AMD 3D V-Cache”, and yields for a product like this are probably not spectacular, so bear that in mind before judging the price tag harshly. After all, this seems to be positioned more as a workstation CPU than a consumer one, and considering the price of DDR5 such things are best purchased by an employer, anyhow.

So, will you be placing an order for the newest new flagship X3D part? Does Intel have anything on the workstation side at this price point that buyers will find more compelling? Are questions at the end of news posts really likely to encourage engagement? Find out (or not) below!

Consider me engaged! This would be right up my street – a nice upgrade from my 5950x but there’s no way I’m shelling out for the 64GB of DDR5. Probably going to wait for Zen 6 and hopefully by then won’t have to sell my right gonad for the memory.
