Everybody Like The Moon, Because It Light Up The Sky at Night

Artemis II and its crew have been further from Earth than any human before, and also got to enjoy a 40 minute break from social media which, as of yet, cannot reach the back of the moon.  Ars Technica posted a few of the highlights and you can head to NASA’s flikr site to see even more.  The shots were captured with a variety of cameras, including a hardened Nikon D5 with an 80 to 400mm lens and a wide angle lens as well as a Nikon Z9 camera with a 35mm lens.  The nature of spaceflight limited what equipment could be used as the weight budget only allowed around 20lbs of camera equipment to accompany the mission.

You can download the images at a decent resolution, 5568 x 3712 will let you zoom in with some detail but as Artemis II’s pilot Victor Glover said, “What we’re seeing, we’re just not picking up on the cameras”.  You will also spot some iPhone photos and yes, they did bring GoPro cameras into space.  Check out one of the most impressive of humanity’s achievements in recent history and dream of being in a place where, for a brief time, no one on Earth can bug you.
