In memory of sane pricing
This is not going to be some supercilious post about rising costs that assumes the reader hasn’t looked at Newegg or Amazon prices on DDR5 lately, but it IS a post about DDR5 pricing. Why? Maybe just to document the insanity a bit.
Here we are, halfway through April of 2026, and a quick look on Newegg for 32GB DDR5 kits of any speed and latency that are actually new, in stock, and sold by Newegg themselves, results in this – and this is when I arrange by LOWEST price first:
Wait a minute – I thought DDR5 prices were about to have some sort of correction, or something? Didn’t the guys on the world-famous PC Perspective Podcast babble about that recently? If so, they were WRONG. The reality is that DDR5 is more expensive than ever, and maybe we are to blame. After all, if Newegg fails to sell even one overpriced stick of the stuff for the rest of the year, is there any chance that $369.99 would be the CHEAPEST new 32GB DDR5 kit of any speed or latency as of April 14, 2026?
What in the Sam Altman is going on here? Oh yeah – idiotic investors are going on here. Case in point (from scrolling Google News this morning):
NVIDIA buying Dell? BUY BUY BUY! Oh, that was just an unverified rumor that has been refuted and can’t possibly be happening? SELL SELL SELL!
Meanwhile, back here on Earth we have to deal with the #@$%^&* reality that every current platform requires something that we really shouldn’t be buying, because buying it is supporting pure evil. BUT that new AMD Ryzen X3D part is awfully temp- NO! Fight against it! You don’t need all of that cache anyway. What would you even do with it? Use it to buy DDR5?
Ok, so maybe we can all content ourselves with our slightly older PC builds and continue waiting out this dumb price hike (or “RAMpocalypse”) for a few more months. Good thing storage is that one category that we can always rely on! Good old stor- WHAT THE HELL???
Once again – LOWEST PRICE FIRST.
