Say Goodbye To LG Monitor App Installer’s McAfee Spam

Only Microsoft Is Allowed To Install Unwanted Software And Show Pop Up Spam!

LG’s Monitor App Installer, which was mentioned on PCPer Podcast #877 thanks to the software automatically installing (and re-installing) on Windows systems the moment a new LG UltraGear is connected.  It’s not just the fact it installs without asking for any user consent, or that it eats up memory which would be better used for other purposes; it is because it shows pop up spam on your desktop advertising McAfee products.

There was nothing good about this decision by LG and McAfee as far as users were concerned, however that is not what prompted the change.  The change came about because Microsoft feels that they are the only ones who should be allowed to force install unwanted apps and to show pop ups on your desktop without your permission.

Pavan Davuluri, who is the Executive Vice President, Windows + Devices at Microsoft, reached out directly to LG and told them to “disable the McAfee pop-up from their app.”  The app will still install via Windows’ Automatic Installation feature if you plug in certain LG UltraGear monitors, that wasn’t Microsoft’s beef.  They didn’t like the McAfee pop ups and so they are now gone from both the automatic Monitor App Installer and the one available on the Windows Store.

If you want to solve that problem, launch CMD as admin and type (or paste) in SystemPropertiesAdvanced.  On the Hardware tab click Device Installation Settings and ignore the dire warning as you disable this wonderful feature.
