Sorry, Microsoft’s GitHub On A CD Isn’t A Thing

Nothing’s Stopping You From Doing It Yourself

If you hadn’t heard, GitHub made an offer that may or may not have been real at one point, but definitely isn’t anymore.  The original claim was that for the first 1000 repo owners that applied, they would burn a copy of that repo to CD and ship it to them.  That’s more than a little amusing; choosing CD over DVD is an odd choice and mailing them would not be free.

As well, as one person commented they would love to see their 66GB repo burned to CD, it would be a stack around 100 disks tall assuming that GitHub would be capable of spanning any files over ~700MB across multiple CDs.   The chances are this is another shot at Sony, but when you actually provide a form for people to fill out the joke quickly becomes less funny to the person who came up with it.  It still remains hilarious to the rest of us though.

Does anyone at GitHub even have a CD burner? That was one of the questions we wanted to ask GitHub.
