The Newest DRAM-less SSD Controller, Phison’s E37T

Low Power, High Bandwidth

Phison showed off their E37T controller at CES 2026, and now TweakTown received an engineering sample to test out.  The controller is supposed to provide 14,900 MB/s sequential reads while munching a mere 3.385W.  Testing shows that bandwidth is reachable, and even more impressively the E37T peaked at a temperature of 43C under a heatspreader that came with the motherboard and no airflow over this PCIe 5.0 SSD.

This 4-channel, DRAMless 1TB SSD sits close to the top of TweakTown’s lengthy charts, even without a DRAM cache SSDs based on the E37T controller are going to be fast.  The only problem is that thanks to the current state of the market, even with and DRAM, you’ll still be paying a fair amount for SSDs based on Phison’s E37T.

Based on 6nm technology, Phison's E37T controller powers the first DRAMless SSD capable of maxing out the PCIe Gen5 interface at more than 14.9 GB/s.

Thank you perverse market conditions for making DRAMless flash drives a positive feature instead of a negative one. *sigh*
