Microsoft’s Hilarious New Move, A Classic Outlook Skin For New Outlook

It Will Keep All The *snerk* New Capabilities Of *snort* New Outlook

It is impossible to type these words with a straight face, especially when Microsoft finishes off with the hilarious punchline about how they are “seeing strong and accelerating adoption of new Outlook.”  Presumably they are measuring the number of users that accidentally toggle New Outlook on when they were trying to close Outlook and do not count it when they switch it back from the abomination which is New Outlook.

The suggestion the newly introduced capabilities of New Outlook won’t disappear when you use the Classic skin is, of course, not followed by any details on what those new features are; mostly because there aren’t any.  Indeed New Outlook lacks capability compared to Classic, for instance the majority of the COM and VSTO add-ins you depend on won’t work, automation via VBA is right out and they even took the send/receive button away.

It’s yet another example of Microsoft offering an upgrade to an established product no one wants, and instead of backing off they slap some makeup on it and completely ignore their customers and the legitimate issues they raise about the changes Microsoft is making.
