Xbox on Linux Could Trigger Further Xodus From Windows

Someday the only reason to game on Windows will be DRM

We spoke about the dwindling Windows desktop OS market share on our last podcast, and Linux could soon become even more attractive to gamers as another roadblock could be removed. Consider this: Xbox and Game Pass. On Linux. How is this possible??

According to the sourced VideoCardz.com post, “Heroic Games Launcher developers [and] other contributors are working on Xodus, an open-source project focused on bringing Microsoft’s GDK-based Xbox PC games outside Windows.” For those unfamiliar, Heroic Games Launcher “is a Free and Open Source Epic, GOG and Amazon Prime Games launcher for Linux, Windows and macOS.”

But this is not a reality just yet. To paraphrase the source article: while development has progressed to the extent that authorization and game downloads work, the game SDK required to actually run the games is not there yet. Still, development continues in earnest, and somehow Game Pass on Linux could be a reality in the not-so-distant future.
